CJ Goecks: Hey, CJ Goecks from Short Game Secrets right here with another game.
You may have seen the eight tee drill, well now I've got one called the seven tee drill.
I'm not very creative, so I try to keep the names very simple.
As you can see, I've got seven tees here.
The first tee is basically three 3 feet away, all right? It's just the putter length.
The rest of the tees are all inside the leather, so if you will, we have 3 feet, 5 feet, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15.
This is a mental test.
At this point your technique is better.
You've worked on the drills that are necessary to improve your putting.
What we're going to do here now is we're going to start practicing with a purpose.
If you have good quality practice, you will see the improvement transfer onto the golf course.
If you're sitting here right now and saying, "Man I can putt well on the putting green, but on the golf course it just doesn't transfer over", it's because your practice isn't disciplined enough.
You're not putting enough pressure on yourself while you're on the putting green.
This is the game right here.
This is a game from my alma matter, right? What we're going to do is we have to make the 3 footer.
If I make the 3 footer, I come back here to the 5 footer.
If I make the 5 footer, I come back to the 7 footer.
If I make the 7 footer, I keep going back, 3, 5, 7, okay? Now I've got the 9 footer right here.
Oh, this might be too easy for me there gentlemen, ladies.
I go back to the 11.
I go to the 13.
If I miss, which we're not going to ...
Hopefully I won't show you that.
Oh, I missed.
Now I've got to come up a tee.
The key is here, is as I go through this, if I make, I go back.
If I miss, now I've got to come up here.
If I miss again, I've got to come up.
If I make, I go back.
That's the key.
Literally, if you like to practice, you can do this with a friend so it puts a little bit of pressure.
We don't really want to let down our friends, so if I make the 3 footer, my friend has to make the 5, then I have to make the 7.
If I miss I'm going to be like, "Oh sorry buddy." Again, we don't want that.
I want you guys to recreate and try to elevate your pressure when you're on the putting green so that way when you get on the course, it's easy.
Lee Trevino, he said, "You never have pressure when you have a put for $5 and you have nothing in your pocket." That's kind of the key here, is we want to make this pressure where you can transfer it to the course so it becomes easy.
This is a great game for kids.
Parents or grandparents, if you're watching this right now, teach this game to your kids or the high school kids that you see out at the course.
It's a great game to help them improve their golf game and recreate some of that pressure.
This is just the seven tee drill.
Remember, three feet, then inside the leather, and do that for seven tees, and you're going to shoot a lot lower scores and enjoy this game a lot more.
