Putting Lessons: How this Grip is Different
CJ: Hey, CJ here from Golf Swing.
Just keeping it short and simple, let's talk about the putter grip.
Is it different than your full swing? Or chipping? Or pitching? Or bunkers? Yes, it is.
You have to understand that the reason we are going to grip the putter differently is because we are looking for precision.
When I teach you the other grips for full swing, or chipping, and all that stuff, the reason what will happen is here's the club will sit more in the fingers.
When we're looking for putting, we want it more in the palm.
Just by placing this, if you're at home do this with me, place it right in the lifeline of your left hand, and then place it in the fingers, and kind of move the club around.
Tell me which one's easier.
You'll notice that when you put that club in the palm, it's a lot harder to move that putter, and that's what we're trying to do here.
We're trying to make the putter difficult to move with your wrist, because we want your big muscles controlling at your shoulders and back, so that way we can have the most control and most precision.
When we use these fine motor skills in our wrists here that are easy to move, that's going to create power.
We're going to need that later on, but right now, understand that the grip is different and in our next video we're going to show you how to do it properly.
