One of the secrets I want to talk to you about is really keeping your distance up, how do you hit the ball farther as you age? This is something I get a lot of questions on the blog about, and I really want to help you with this. The key is is as we get older we lose our flexibility. The other thing that you have to understand is D-plane, and this gets into a lot of new technology or understanding of the golf swing.
The key is is that when you are hitting the ball with the driver you want to have an ascending blow. In other words, you want to hit it on the upswing. When you get a level swing or even a downward path, you rob yourself of so much distance. Remember with the driver is we want to have our spine tilted to the right with about 60% of our weight on the right side. That creates a more ascending blow. The proper ... What we want is about five degrees ascending blow.
The other thing we're going to do to help you get more distance as you get older is simply as you set up drop your right foot back a few inches. This gives you aim to the right and that's okay, but what we're trying to do is create an ascending blow from in to out. This is what's going to get you ... The distance and carry, it's not going to be that much more. You might get another seven yards distance and carry, but you're going to get another 40 yards in run.
I'm not talking about hitting a hook. It's just going to be a little bit of a draw. The key is is tilt your spine to the right and drop your right foot back. That allows you to hit more from inside to out and get some extra distance on the ground. That is the key to really hitting your ball farther and really helping you when you're losing that flexibility. You'll notice by dropping this right foot back you can turn more. When you can turn more, it doesn't create any more stress on your body.
I've just created some artificial flexibility. You can flare this toe out if you need to even more and/or finally if you're really inflexible drop that foot back, pick the left heel off the ground. Allow yourself to create some flexibility that way and that will really help you as you age and allow you to hit the ball farther.
