Understand How to Load the Right Side with Simple Drill
Speaker 1: The trajectory's a little bit low, depending on the first kick.
Speaker 2: Oh! Oh! Speaker 1: He just won his second title.
It might be the best feat in RE/MAX Long Drive history. Bobby Wilson: Hi, Bobby Wilson here.
Founder of the Power Golf Institute, and four-time RE/MAX World Long Drive champion.
No, I'm not inviting you to go to the beach, and we're not going to have us a big-time party because unfortunately it's empty.
What I am going to teach you to do with this little Igloo, this ice cooler here, is teach you how to load the right side.
Most of the time, you don't know how to load your right side in golf.
You're not getting that extra distance.
You're hitting it just solid, but it goes nowhere.
It's because you never get off-center. So many times, people say, "Shift to the right." They say, "Get your weight to your right side," but you just don't know how.
Take one of these coolers out of the golf cart at your local golf course.
What I want you to do is stand here with both hands on it, and take it back like you're going to throw it under-handed out into the fairway.
Notice what happens.
I'm not going to take it this way in reverse.
See how my weight goes down? What I'm going to do is this.
I'm going to take it back - see how I'm going to throw it? Look what I just did.
I've loaded that right side.
My left heel came off the ground.
This was a natural move.
I didn't have to think about it. I'm going to take it back, and I'm going to throw it.
Noticed what else happens.
I've got good extension.
My weight's got from my right to my left side.
Again, this is just a wonderful drill of getting the feel of loading the right side.
Now, here's the thing.
As you get better with this, start putting ice in it.
Make it a little heavier.
Then put a few beers in it, or Cokes, or sodas, whatever you want to call it.
For right now, I want it empty, and I want you loading the right side.
Letting it go, throwing it down the fairway.
You want longer drives? Load that right side, and have a cold one on me afterwards.
Remember, you're going to have a lot more fun when you're out-driving your buddies.
